Flo Rida
Flo Rida is the stage name of Tramar Lacel Dillard, an American rapper and singer from Florida, born September 16, 1979. He grew up in the Miami Gardens area and started rapping in high school with a group called GroundHoggz. After brief stints at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Barry University, he returned to Florida to pursue music with Poe Boy Entertainment.
His breakthrough came in 2007 with the hit “Low,” featuring T-Pain. The song stayed at No. 1 on the U.S. charts for ten weeks and helped set a new digital sales record. Flo Rida’s debut album, Mail on Sunday (2008), reached No. 4 in the United States. He followed with R.O.O.T.S. (2009), which included the big hit Right Round (featuring Ke$ha) that topped the UK charts. His later albums, Only One Flo (Part 1) (2010) and Wild Ones (2012), also did well on the charts. Songs like Good Feeling, Whistle, and Wild Ones became global hits, with Whistle topping many countries’ charts.
Beyond his albums, Flo Rida started his own label, International Music Group, in 2010 and has signed artists Brianna Perry and Git Fresh. His career also includes collaborations with many artists and appearances on tracks across hip-hop, pop, and dance music. He released music under the My House era (including the EP) and worked on several singles like G.D.F.R., Hello Friday, and other chart activity.
In addition to his music, Flo Rida represented San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, performing with Senhit; they finished 22nd.
From 2022 onward, he released country-rap songs such as High Heels with Walker Hayes and No Bad Days with Jimmie Allen. In January 2023, Flo Rida was awarded $82.6 million in a lawsuit against Celsius, the energy drink company with which he had an endorsement deal, after claims the company breached their contract.
Musically, Flo Rida is known for danceable hip-hop that blends pop and dance music. His style has been described as dance-pop, dance-rap, and pop-rap. He has sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists. He remains active, continuing to release music and collaborate with other artists.
