Falcatamacaris
Falcatamacaris
Falcatamacaris is an extinct genus of Cambrian arthropods in the group Artiopoda. It is known from a single species, Falcatamacaris bellua, described in 2014 from fossils in the Weeks Formation in Utah. These rocks date to the Guzhangian stage of the Cambrian (Cambrian Stage 3).
The holotype is over 10 cm long, not counting the missing tail piece (telson). The body has 11 trunk segments (tergites) with crescent-shaped spines along the sides. Its exact position within Artiopoda is uncertain. The species was named Falcatamacaris bellua by Ortega-Hernández, Lerosey-Aubril, Kier & Bonino in 2014.
