Expedition of Qutbah ibn Amir
The Expedition of Qutbah ibn Amir against the Khath’am tribe happened in August 630 CE (9 AH), in the Khath’am region near Tabalah. Muhammad sent Qutbah ibn Amir with twenty men and ten camels to surprise the Khath’am while they slept. The attack led to heavy fighting, with many killed and wounded on both sides. The Muslims killed many of the Khath’am and captured a large amount of loot, including camels, goats, and some women, which they brought back to Madinah. The Khath’am later pursued them, but a flood blocked their path, allowing the Muslims to escape. The event is recorded by Muslim historians such as Ibn Sa’d in Kitab al-tabaqat al-kabir and by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya in Zad al-Ma'ad, and is also mentioned in Sunan Abu Dawood.
