Exeter Friendly Society
Exeter Friendly Society, now trading as The Exeter, is a British mutual insurer based in Exeter, Devon. Founded in 1927, it offers health insurance, income protection insurance and life insurance, including Private Medical Insurance. It is one of the UK’s largest friendly societies, with around 140,000 members and about 240 employees (2025). The head office is in Exeter Business Park, Exeter. In 2008 it merged with Pioneer Friendly Society, and the merged group used the Exeter Family Friendly Society name. In 2015 it rebranded to The Exeter. Since then it has grown across the UK and won several awards for its products and service, operating from a single office in Exeter.
