Exaiptasia diaphana

Exaiptasia diaphana, the pale anemone, is a sea anemone in the genus Exaiptasia. It usually looks semitransparent brown, gray, or white. The brown color comes from algae (zooxanthellae, Symbiodinium microadriaticum) living in its tissues.

It has up to 96 tentacles surrounding its mouth, with two rows of cinclides and protruding acontia around the oral disk; the acontia can be extended when the animal is disturbed. The tentacles can reach up to about 8 cm (3 inches) across. The body can grow up to about 5.1 cm (2 inches) tall and 1.3 cm (0.5 inches) wide.

Exaiptasia diaphana is prey for certain sea slugs, including Berghia coerulescens and Spurilla neapolitana.
