Esther Hicks, born Esther Weaver in 1948 in Coalville, Utah, is an American motivational speaker, channeler, and author. She co-wrote nine books with her husband, Jerry Hicks, and they led workshops on the law of attraction through Abraham-Hicks Publications. Hicks also appeared in the original cut of the 2006 film The Secret.

She says she channels a collective consciousness she calls “Abraham,” and she uses a different voice to show when the entity is speaking through her.

Esther had a daughter named Tracy from her first marriage. She met Jerry Hicks in 1976, and they married four years later. Jerry had earlier worked as a circus acrobat in Cuba and spent years in entertainment. Esther began channeling in 1985 after reading the Seth Material; she started giving private readings in 1987 and conferences in 1988, traveling with Jerry in a luxurious motorhome and later by cruise.

The Hickses became widely known after The Secret in 2006. A 2005 cruise conference segment appears in the film, but footage was removed from the Extended Edition due to a dispute with the film’s creator, Rhonda Byrne. Hicks has since offered video lectures and exclusive content for subscribers. By January 2023, their YouTube channel had about 741,000 subscribers, with the most popular video having around 14.6 million views. Jerry Hicks died on November 18, 2011, from cancer, at age 85.

Their core teaching is the law of attraction: if you tune your thoughts to the universe’s frequency, you can attract what you desire. This idea has roots in older self-help and New Thought movements. By 2013, they described their teachings in three universal principles.

Esther Hicks narrated the original version of The Secret and helped inspire the film, though some of her footage was later removed. In 2007, she released The Secret behind the Secret. Several books by Esther and Jerry Hicks became bestsellers, including Ask and It Is Given (2004); The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent (2006); The Law of Attraction (2006); The Astonishing Power of Emotions (2008); Money and the Law of Attraction: Learning to Attract Health, Wealth & Happiness; and The Vortex: Where the Law of Attraction Assembles All Cooperative Relationships (2009).
