The Red Sleeve
The Red Sleeve is a South Korean historical romance drama that aired on MBC TV from November 12, 2021, to January 1, 2022. It stars Lee Jun-ho as King Jeongjo, Lee Se-young as Ui-bin Seong (the royal court lady who becomes his consort), and Kang Hoon in a supporting role. Based on the novel The Red Sleeve Cuff by Kang Mi-kang, the series tells a royal court romance from the perspective of the court lady, showing how the king’s duty to his country clashes with love.
The drama runs for 17 episodes, each about 70 minutes. It aired on Fridays and Saturdays at 22:00 KST. The project was originally set to premiere on November 5 but was delayed by a week due to a baseball broadcast, and it was later extended by one episode because of its popularity.
Filming began in May 2021 and wrapped on December 21, 2021. Shooting took place at several locations, including Mungyeong Saejae Open Set, Jeonju Hanok Village, Gwanghallu Garden in Namwon, Naganeupseong Folk Village, Yeokrin Set in Damyang, and Yeolhwajeong Pavilion in Boseong.
Lead roles were initially offered to Kim Kyung-nam and Park Hye-su.
