Eris militaris, commonly known as the bronze jumper or bronze lake jumper, is a small jumping spider found in the United States and Canada. It lives in both cities and the countryside, often hiding in vegetation or under dead wood, and sometimes in apple orchards where insecticides are used.

Appearance and size: Males are about 4.7–6.7 mm long, females about 6–8 mm. They show different color patterns: females have a lighter cephalothorax and a darker abdomen with white spots; males have a darker cephalothorax and a lighter abdomen with white bands along the sides. Their bronze-brown color helps them blend in with their surroundings.

Behavior: They are active in autumn and winter and can be found in sheltered spots. Males perform a courtship dance, lifting their forelegs and stepping side to side to attract a mate. They eat small insects such as grasshoppers, moths, flies, bees, wasps, crickets, and leafhoppers.

Insecticides and behavior: Exposure to leftover insecticides can change their behavior and even their personalities, reducing memory, learning, and prey-catching ability. Insecticides can also affect how they build webs.

Ecological role: Bronze jumpers help control pest insects in agricultural areas, though insecticides can weaken this natural pest control.
