Erik Smaaland
Erik Gustaf Smaaland (born May 2, 1986) is a Norwegian music producer, songwriter, musical director and guitarist. Also known as Smaaland, K&S, and GoToGuy, he works mainly in dance, pop and EDM. In 2024 he won the Spellemann Award for International Success of the Year and was nominated alongside artists like Caroline Ailin and Girl in Red.
He has written and produced for many artists, including a recent single for Tiësto called “Lay Low,” and collaborations with Rita Ora, Jess Glynne, Jonas Blue, R3HAB, Tiago PZK, IVE, Dillon Francis, Lukas Graham and Armin van Buuren.
Smaaland’s international breakthrough came with Alan Walker and Ava Max’s “Alone, Pt. II,” which reached the Top 20 in seven countries and #77 on Spotify’s global chart. Around the same time, Robin Schulz’s “In Your Eyes” featuring Alida hit #3 on the German airplay chart and topped Billboard’s Dance chart.
In 2020 he started the year with three #1 singles in Norway and worked on “One More Dance” with R3HAB. In 2021 he co-wrote and produced tracks such as “One More Time” by Robin Schulz and Felix Jaehn, “Love Again” by Alok and VIZE, “Weight Of The World” by Armin van Buuren, and “Scandal” from TWICE’s Taste of Love EP. Since then he has earned several Top 3 singles on the German airplay chart.
Domestically, he began gaining attention in 2017 with Hkeem’s “Fy Faen,” which topped Norway’s charts and reached Sweden’s Top 20. He has since produced many Top 20 Norwegian acts. He won Song of the Year at the 2017 Spellemann Awards and has been nominated for other honors at Norwegian music-award events.
