Elwha River Bridge
The old Elwha River Bridge was built around 1913 to cross the Elwha River on Elwha River Road in Elwha, Washington. It was a steel deck-truss bridge and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. In 2007, concerns about its safety led to its closure and demolition after the I-35W bridge collapse raised awareness of structural problems. A new two-lane concrete bridge with a pedestrian and bicyclist trail underneath was built nearby and completed in 2009. The new bridge is part of the Olympic Discovery Trail.
