SX Arietis variable
SX Arietis variables are a small group of variable stars that are hot B-type main-sequence stars with strong magnetic fields and unusual spectral features, especially helium I and silicon III lines. Their brightness changes by about 0.1 magnitude in a cycle of roughly one day. The prototype is 56 Arietis, which gives the class its name. These stars are the hotter, magnetic cousins of Alpha2 Canum Venaticorum variables. When magnitudes are listed, they are usually given in the V-band. They are of interest to both amateur and professional astronomers.
