There Be Monsters
There Be Monsters was a British-themed bar and restaurant in Portland, Oregon, open from July 2014 to May 4, 2024. It was located at 1308 Southeast Morrison Street in the Buckman neighborhood. The cozy, dim space featured maps, tapestries, antique knickknacks, and a large shuffleboard table from earlier tenants. There was sidewalk seating and a covered back patio.
The menu offered British fare like sausage rolls, steak-and-Stilton pasties, ale-battered fish and chips, and haddock sandwiches, along with chicken tikka masala and curried cauliflower with yogurt raita. The drink list included beer, cocktails, and a Hemingway daiquiri made with maraschino. A popular happy-hour item was the Hal's Happy Beef Burger. The shuffleboard and relaxed vibe made it a popular spot for games, and it received attention as a top place for gaming in Portland.
The owners announced the closing on May 4, 2024, thanking their staff and customers and saying it was time to end.
