Edgar Henríquez
Edgar Alonso Henríquez (born 16 March 1964 in San Salvador) is a former Salvadoran football midfielder and current coach of the El Salvador under-21 team. Nicknamed Kiko, he began in the lower divisions with Adler San Nicolás and Salvadoreño de Armenia, then moved up to the Primera División with UES in 1985. He later played for Chalatenango, Luis Ángel Firpo (where he won four league titles), El Roble and Alianza (one more title). He retired from playing in 1997.
Henríquez debuted for El Salvador in 1986 and played in one FIFA World Cup qualification match. His last international appearance was in May 1994 at the Miami Cup against Colombia.
As a coach, Henríquez has led many clubs in El Salvador’s top division and worked with youth national teams. Notable moments include guiding Santa Tecla to promotion to the Primera División in 2012, and stints with UES, Luis Ángel Firpo, Santa Tecla, Independiente FC, Vendaval, and the Alianza reserves. In 2015 he headed the El Salvador Under-17 and Under-15 teams, and since 2023 he has led the El Salvador Under-21 team.
