George Lawton (4 August 1862 – 1930) was an English footballer from Stoke-upon-Trent who played as a right winger. He started with Stoke St Peter's in 1884 and joined Stoke in 1885, taking part in the FA Cup that season. In early 1886 he moved briefly to Burslem Port Vale, scoring three times in 13 friendly games, before returning to Stoke in May 1886. Lawton was part of Stoke’s early cup campaigns and played in the 1887–88 FA Cup, scoring twice as Stoke reached the fifth round, including a 4–1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in January 1888. He made his Football League debut on 13 October 1888 as a winger in a 2–1 loss to Bolton Wanderers, and seven days later he scored a late winner in a 4–3 home win over Burnley. In the 1888–89 season he played 13 league matches and scored one goal, but Stoke finished bottom of the table. After leaving Stoke, he joined Altrincham and later Belvedere F.C. He died in 1930 in Stoke-on-Trent.
