Origin of the name
East Broughton gets its name because it lies in the eastern part of the Broughton Township; West Broughton is today Saint-Pierre-de-Broughton.

History
- The Broughton area was mapped in 1795. English settlers began arriving in the 1820s, and a mission started in the mid-1800s.
- The Parish of Sacré-Cœur-de-Jésus was founded in 1871.
- The village was commonly called East Broughton because of its location in the township.
- The post office opened in 1875.
- The Quebec Central Railway reached the area in 1881, creating two village cores: L'Église (near the church) and Le Village at the station; a post office opened at the station in 1899.
- The asbestos industry began in 1896 and shaped local work for decades, until the late 1950s.
- In 1902 it became part of the Parish Municipality of Sacré-Cœur-de-Jésus. On October 27, 1908, it separated and became the Village Municipality of Sacré-Cœur-de-Jésus, later renamed the Municipality of East Broughton in 1931.
- In 1955 the area around the station formed East Broughton Station as a separate village; in 1994 East Broughton Station merged back into East Broughton.
