E. William Crotty
E. William Crotty (Edmund William Crotty) (June 28, 1931 – October 10, 1999) was an American attorney and diplomat. He was born in Claremont, New Hampshire, and grew up in Bellows Falls, Vermont. He was salutatorian at Bellows Falls High School and became the first Vermont student to earn five varsity letters in different sports. He attended Dartmouth College on a full scholarship and earned his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, also on a scholarship.
Crotty worked as an attorney and became involved in Democratic politics, eventually serving as chairman of the executive committee of the Democratic National Committee's board of directors.
In 1999, he was appointed as the U.S. ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda and also served as ambassador to Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Grenada, and Barbados. He presented his credentials in August 1999 and served until his death on October 10, 1999, in Gainesville, Florida, at the age of 68 from pneumonia.
