Carlos Cortés Díaz (1923–1971) was a Chilean worker, trade unionist, and politician. He was born in Taltal in 1923 and died in Santiago on 10 September 1971. He joined the Socialist Party in 1937 and was active in the construction and mining unions, eventually joining the party’s central committee.

From 3 November 1970 to 10 September 1971, he served as Chile’s Minister of Housing and Urbanism under President Salvador Allende, helping to launch the first housing program of the Popular Government. He died while still in office; his funeral was held with ministerial honors.

Cortés Díaz had three children—Bernardo, Esteban, and Lucía. His parents were Manuel Cortés and Claudina Díaz Santander, and he had two brothers, Manuel Segundo and Marcelino. In October 1971, the Chamber of Deputies paid tribute to him, describing him as a tireless worker who became a minister with dignity and responsibility.
