Drummondslope, Queensland
Drummondslope is a former rural locality in the Barcaldine Region, Queensland, Australia. In the 2016 census it had a population of 43 people. On 22 November 2019, it was merged into Alpha as part of a regional boundary change.
Geography
- The Capricorn Highway and the Central Western railway form the northern boundary.
- The western boundary follows the Great Dividing Range; the southern boundary follows the southern tip of the Drummond Range.
- The Tambo Road runs through the area from Alpha in the northeast to Blackall/Windeyer in the southwest.
- Alpha Creek begins in the south and flows north through Drummondslope toward Alpha.
- All watercourses ultimately drain to the North East Coast basin and the Burdekin River, which reaches the Coral Sea.
Land use
- The main activity is grazing on native vegetation.
History
- In 1910, the Drummondslope pastoral run was offered for a 20-year lease, covering about 273 square miles. Edmund Jowett won the lease.
- The property was sold in 1930 to George Oliver Carter, and in 1935 to B. Hooke & Co.
- By 2019 the Drummondslope pastoral run still existed but was smaller, about 200.6 square kilometres.

- There are no schools in Drummondslope.
- The nearest primary school is in Alpha.
- The nearest secondary school in Alpha goes to Year 10; for Year 12, the nearest is in Barcaldine.
- Boarding schools and distance education are options.
