Doug Dascenzo
Douglas Craig Dascenzo (born June 30, 1964) is a former Major League Baseball outfielder and current baseball coach. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he is a switch hitter who threw left and stood 5'7" and 150 pounds. He attended Brownsville Area High School in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, and Oklahoma State University. Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 12th round of the 1985 amateur draft, he debuted in MLB with the Cubs in 1988 and played through 1996 for the Cubs, Texas Rangers, and San Diego Padres. He finished his career with a .234 batting average, 5 home runs, and 90 RBIs.
Dascenzo was known for his defense, starting his career with a NL record 241 consecutive error-free games and finishing with a .990 fielding percentage while playing all three outfield positions. He also made four appearances as a relief pitcher in 1990–1991, pitching five innings with two strikeouts.
After retiring as a player, Dascenzo became a coach and manager in the Padres and Braves organizations. He led Padres minor leaguers at Eugene (2006), Fort Wayne Wizards (2007), Fort Wayne TinCaps (2009), and San Antonio Missions (2009–2011), earning the Texas League Manager of the Year in 2011. He joined the Atlanta Braves in 2011 as a minor-league base running and outfield coordinator, was promoted to major-league third-base coach in 2013, and was let go after the 2014 season. He then joined the Chicago Cubs as an outfield and first-base coach in 2014, serving as an outfield coach in 2016, and is currently a coach for the Cubs’ Tennessee Smokies.
