Dorian Finney-Smith
Dorian Lawrence Finney-Smith (born May 4, 1993) is an American NBA forward for the Houston Rockets. He can play small forward or power forward and is known for his defense and outside shooting.
He grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia, and attended I. C. Norcom High School, where he starred in basketball. Finney-Smith played college basketball at Virginia Tech (2011–2012) and Florida (2013–2016). He went undrafted in 2016 but signed with the Dallas Mavericks, starting his NBA career in 2016.
Finney-Smith spent seven seasons with the Mavericks before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets in February 2023 as part of the deal for Kyrie Irving. In December 2024, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. For the 2024–25 season with the Lakers, he appeared in 43 games (20 starts) and averaged 7.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
After ankle surgery in June 2025, Finney-Smith opted out of his Lakers contract and signed with the Houston Rockets on July 7, 2025, a four-year deal worth $53 million.
Finney-Smith earned several college honors: two-time first or second-team All-SEC selections (2015, 2016) and SEC Sixth Man of the Year (2014), along with ACC All-Freshman Team recognition (2012) while at Virginia Tech.
