Dong-Yun Kim
Dong-Yun Kim is a biostatistician who studies clinical trials, detecting changes in data, and statistical genetics. She works as a mathematical statistician in the Office of Biostatistics Research at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). In 2023 she served as president of the Caucus for Women in Statistics (CWS).
She earned her PhD from the University of Michigan in 2003. Her dissertation, supervised by Michael Woodroofe, was on Sequential Test and Change Point Problems with Staggered Entry.
Kim began her career as an assistant professor of mathematics at Illinois State University in 2003, then moved to Virginia Tech as an assistant professor of statistics in 2007. She joined NHLBI in 2013. She serves on the board of the Korean International Statistical Society. In 2022 she received an achievement award from Korean Women Scientists and Engineers for promoting collaboration between Korean women scientists in Korea and Korean-American women scientists in the US.
