List of educational institutions in Taichung
Taichung, a city in Taiwan, offers education from kindergarten through university. It has international schools for foreigners and language institutes where people study Mandarin and Taiwanese.
Education levels in Taichung
- Elementary school: grades 1–6.
- Junior high: grades 7–9 (part of mandatory nine years of schooling).
- Senior high: grades 10–12 (prepares students for university and is usually based on a national exam).
- Universities: four-year programs, with both public and private options.
Senior high schools
Notable senior high schools include Taichung First Senior High School (established 1915; historically an all-boys school with limited female enrollment in special programs), Taichung Girls’ Senior High School (established 1919), and Taichung Second Senior High School (established 1922; now coed). Public high schools are typically cheaper and well-resourced, while private high schools also exist, some offering vocational tracks or junior-high education.
Vocational and special education
Taiwan offers vocational programs, some with strong academic emphasis (language programs) and others focused on job preparation. There are also special schools for deaf students and others with learning impairments.
International schools and language study
There are three accredited international schools in Taichung: two English-medium schools with American-style curricula and one school for Japanese children. To attend these schools, a foreign passport is usually required.

Taichung City offers three accredited Mandarin language programs, along with dozens of kindergartens and cram schools, not all government-registered.
