1979–80 Challenge Cup, sponsored as the State Express Challenge Cup, was rugby league’s 79th knockout competition. The final, at Wembley, was the first Cup final between two Hull clubs. Hull Kingston Rovers defeated Hull 10–5 in front of 95,000 fans. Brian Lockwood, a Rovers prop, won the Lance Todd Trophy for man of the match. Steve Hubbard scored 9 of Rovers’ 10 points, and this was Hull Kingston Rovers’ first Cup final win.
