Dudley Girls High School
Dudley Girls High School was a girls-only grammar school in Dudley, England. It opened on 8 December 1910 on Priory Road near the town centre and educated girls aged 11–18 (from 1972, 12–18). The school hosted many plays and concerts with the nearby Boys’ Grammar School, and by the 1960s some sixth‑form subjects were taught together.
In September 1975, it merged with Dudley Boys Grammar School and the Park Secondary Modern School to form The Dudley School, where boys and girls aged 12–18 studied in the same buildings. The Park School buildings were used as an annex for two years.
In September 1989, The Dudley School merged with The Blue Coat School to form Castle High School, with pupils from other local schools joining as well. The new Castle High School opened in 1990.
The old grammar school buildings were expanded between 1990 and 1995. The former Dudley Girls High School buildings were left unused after July 1995, though a sports hall stayed for more than a decade. A new entrance connected the old grammar site to the high school to help with demolition. Dudley Council planned to use the high school as offices, but decided to demolish it instead. The site became a public car park in 1997, and a Dudley College campus opened there in 2012. The main building was demolished, but the original wall and the Ednam Road entrance were kept.
