Dondon Ampalayo
Cresencio “Dondon” Ampalayo (born April 18, 1963 in Cebu City, Philippines) is a retired Filipino basketball player who starred in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Known as the Magician or Magic Man, he was famous for his pivot moves near the basket and his three-point shooting. He is 6 ft 3 in tall and weighed about 190 lb during his playing days.
Ampalayo played college basketball at USJ–RPBA and also played for ESQ Merchants in the PABL before turning pro. He was drafted in 1986 in the first round, 3rd overall, by Ginebra San Miguel. He played for Ginebra from 1986 to 1993, earning Rookie of the Year in 1986 and winning four PBA championships (1986 Open Conference, 1988 All-Filipino, 1991 First Conference, 1994 Governor’s).
In 1993, he was traded mid-season to the Alaska Milkmen in exchange for Bobby Jose and stayed with Alaska until 1995. Knee problems eventually ended his playing career.
Ampalayo now lives in the United States with his wife, Anne Pasco Ampalayo, and their two sons, Aldreen and Zachary.
