Dimdazenil, sold as Junoenil and EVT-201, is a benzodiazepine-like drug used for short-term treatment of insomnia in China. It acts as a partial positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor, with a higher affinity for the α1 subunit than for α2, α3, or α5. This profile supports sleep-promoting effects and may come with fewer side effects like motor incoordination compared with other benzodiazepines and Z-drugs.

It is available by prescription in China for managing insomnia.

Development history: Dimdazenil was originally developed by Roche as a non-sedating anti-anxiety drug but caused sedation in early human trials. It was then licensed to Evotec for insomnia development. By 2007, it had completed Phase II trials with positive results. In China, development was taken up by Zhejiang Jingxin Pharmaceutical.
