Diaporthe eres is a species of fungus that acts as a plant pathogen. It is the type species of the genus Diaporthe and is known for causing canker diseases on a wide variety of host plants, from trees to crops. The species has a long naming history and has appeared under many different synonyms in the past; for example, it was illustrated in 1803 by James Sowerby as Sphaeria ciliaris. To reduce confusion from outdated names, the name Diaporthe eres is used as the correct name for this species. It belongs to the order Diaporthales, in the class Sordariomycetes.
