Dhruva (soundtrack)
Dhruva (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the music for the 2016 Telugu action film Dhruva, directed by Surender Reddy. A remake of the Tamil film Thani Oruvan (2015), it stars Ram Charan, Rakul Preet Singh and Arvind Swamy. The soundtrack and score are by Hiphop Tamizha in their Telugu debut, featuring four songs with lyrics by Chandrabose and Varikuppala Yadagiri. It was released by Aditya Music on 9 November 2016.
Surender Reddy kept the original composers for the film and, before starting, Hiphop Tamizha spent a week with the director to understand his sensibilities. They created a new set of tunes for the Telugu version, while minimizing Hindi words to suit the Telugu audience.
The title track was performed by Amit Mishra in Telugu for the first time. It draws some inspiration from the song Travelling Soldier from Thammudu (1999). The melody-heavy track "Pareshanura" blends Carnatic music with hip hop. The music was completed by October 2016, and Aditya Music acquired the audio rights. A 10-second promo was released on 2 November 2016.
An audio launch planned for 9 November with Pawan Kalyan as chief guest was canceled due to demonetisation, and the album released directly on 9 November. The Telugu version of the original song "Theemai Dhan Vellum" was adapted as "Manushi Musugulo Mrugam Neney Ra" for promotional use and released as a bonus track on 7 December 2016 by Sony Music India.
Critics welcomed the soundtrack. Behindwoods and Indiaglitz gave about 2.75/5, noting enjoyable and non-formulaic compositions. 123Telugu called it classy and different from the usual. Milliblog said it stays true to Hiphop Tamizha’s style, while Bollywood Life gave 2.5/5. The News Minute praised the score for complementing the film, and The Times of India highlighted how the background music enhanced the experience. The film’s audio jukebox quickly crossed 1 million views on YouTube.
