Delivery order

Delivery order (D/O) is a document from the goods’ owner or their agent that lets a freight carrier release the cargo to someone else. The order usually allows direct delivery to a warehouseman, carrier, or another person who issues warehouse receipts or bills of lading in their normal business. Under the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), a delivery order is an instruction from the owner to the person holding the goods (the carrier or warehouseman) to deliver them to a named recipient. For imports, a delivery order is not the same as delivery instructions, which tell the inland carrier exactly how the forwarder will deliver the goods to a specific pier or steamship line.
