Mathur (name)

Mathur is a subcaste of the Kayastha community in northern India. The name may come from Mathura. A sizeable Mathur community is also found in South India, especially around Hyderabad. Historically, many Mathurs moved from the north to work in administration under medieval Indian rulers.
