Deir ez-Zahrani
Deir ez-Zahrani (Arabic: دير الزهراني) is a municipality in southern Lebanon. It is in Nabatieh Governorate and Nabatieh District. The area covers about 4.67 square miles (12.09 square kilometers). The town sits about 400 meters (1,300 feet) above sea level and is roughly 75 kilometers (47 miles) from Beirut. The time zone is UTC+2, switching to UTC+3 in summer.
History: In 1875, the traveler Victor Guérin described Deir ez-Zahrani as a hilltop village with around 100 Shia Muslims and about 20 Christians. He noted ancient ruins with scattered column fragments and dressed stones in ruined mosques and houses. He mention an ancient funerary cippus with a palm and crown, whose Greek inscription was recorded by Renan.
Population data: In 2014, 97.67% of registered voters were Muslims, and 95.04% were Shiite Muslims.
