The Night of Poetry
The Night of Poetry, called La Nuit de la poésie in French, was a big poetry event in Montreal on March 27, 1970. It happened at the Church of the Gesù, drawing more than 4,000 people and about fifty poets from different generations. The event is remembered as a landmark moment in Quebec literature and one of the greatest spoken-word celebrations in Quebec. A film by Jean-Claude Labrecque and Jean-Pierre Masse, made for the National Film Board of Canada, captured the night and was released in 1971.
