Dead Kansas
Dead Kansas is a five-part web series from 2013, created by Aaron K. Carter and produced by Rotten Productions. Set in a post-apocalyptic world ruled by creatures called “Rottens,” a farmer and his teenage daughter try to survive while a ruthless gang schemes to kidnap her for profit. As the farmer faces off against the gang and a looming tornado, danger from the Rottens closes in.
The show was filmed in Los Angeles, mainly in the San Fernando Valley, with some scenes at the California Institute of Abnormal Arts in North Hollywood. Notably, only one full zombie is shown on screen; the rest of the Rottens are depicted through point-of-view shots, with the camera acting as the zombie’s eye.
The pilot premiered on September 24, 2012 on YouTube, and all five acts were released later as a feature-length film on DVD in October 2013. The film version won Best Zombie Film at the 2014 FANtastic Horror Film Festival and was released on Amazon Video in February 2015.
Music for the film comes from Power Of Aggression, a Hollywood-area punk band, with songs such as “The Ruler,” “Walls Of Sanity,” “Hate,” “The Way We Feel,” “Behold the Terror,” and “Now.” The score was composed by Jonathan Price.
Starring Irwin Keyes, Joe McQueen, and Ben Woolf, Dead Kansas runs about 64 minutes.
