Goose Lake Valley near Davis Creek began with a single log cabin in 1869. The Davis Creek post office opened in 1877 and was renamed Davis Creek in 1879. During Goose Lake’s high-water years (roughly 1908–1912), Davis Creek served as the southern port on Goose Lake, and a ferry named Lakeview carried passengers and cargo to Lakeview, Oregon at the lake’s northern end.
The Reno-to-Lakeview railway reached Davis Creek in 1911. The port faded as lake waters declined and the railroad reached Lakeview. A 1913 book described Davis Creek as being on Goose Lake with about 150 residents.
In the early 1960s, U.S. Route 395 was realigned, bypassing Davis Creek’s business area. Many local businesses closed, and a newer general store was built along the new highway.
Legally, Davis Creek is in California’s 1st Senate District and the 2nd Assembly District, both represented by Republicans. Federally, it is in California’s 1st congressional district, a seat vacant at the time.
