British Cemetery Montevideo Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen
The British Cemetery Montevideo in Uruguay was established in 1828. It contains graves of servicemen from different nationalities. Eight graves are maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the cemetery is listed in the Roll of Honour. The section mainly holds sailors, most of whom are British, including those who served in the Armed Forces and those who were merchant sailors in the River Plate area during wartime. Notable ships associated with the cemetery include STV Royston Grange and HMNZS Achilles, which fought in the Battle of the River Plate.
