David Ngog
David Ngog is a French former professional footballer who played as a striker. Born on 1 April 1989 in Gennevilliers, France, he has both French and Cameroonian nationality. Ngog is the cousin of former France international Jean-Alain Boumsong.
Early life and career
Ngog began his football journey with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), joining their academy in 2001 and turning professional in 2006. He made his Ligue 1 debut with PSG and helped the team win the Coupe de la Ligue in 2007-08.
Liverpool and the Premier League
In 2008, Ngog moved to Liverpool. He made 63 league appearances for the club and scored 9 goals. He featured in pre-season friendlies, scored in early outings, and earned a place in the first team, especially after the departure of other strikers. He had notable moments in the 2009-10 season, including important goals in the Premier League and European competition, and became an impact substitute as the squad evolved with new signings.
Bolton Wanderers
Ngog transferred to Bolton Wanderers in 2011 for about £4 million. He played 81 league matches and scored 14 goals for Bolton before leaving in 2014. His time at Bolton included relegation and a number of loan-interest rumors from other clubs.
Later club career
- Swansea City (2014): Ngog joined Swansea City for a short spell, making a few appearances.
- Reims (2014-2016): He moved to France’s Ligue 1 with Reims, where he scored 10 goals in 44 appearances.
- Panionios (2016-2017): Ngog went to Greece to play for Panionios, making 13 appearances and scoring once.
- Ross County (2018): He spent part of 2018 with Ross County in Scotland, scoring once in 10 appearances.
- Budapest Honvéd (2018-2020): He joined Budapest Honvéd in Hungary, scoring 9 goals in 28 appearances.
- Žalgiris (2020): Ngog moved to FK Žalgiris in Lithuania, scoring once in two appearances.
Return to Panionios and retirement
In 2022, Ngog returned to Panionios in Greece, continuing his playing career in the Greek football system. In June 2020, Ngog announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31. He later returned to football in 2022 with Panionios.
International career
Ngog represented France at the under-21 level, earning 17 caps and scoring 3 goals between 2008 and 2010. He was also approached by Cameroon to switch allegiance through his father, but he did not make the switch for the senior national team.
