Dancin' on the Boulevard
Dancin' on the Boulevard is the seventeenth studio album by the American country group Alabama, released on April 8, 1997, by RCA Nashville. It was recorded in October 1996 at Soundshop Studio A and Sony ATV Tree in Nashville, Tennessee. The album runs 42 minutes and 5 seconds and was produced by Alabama and Don Cook.
The set marks Alabama’s studio work between Christmas Vol. II (1996) and Twentieth Century (1999). It features four singles: Sad Lookin' Moon (released February 17, 1997) reached No. 2 on the U.S. country charts; the title track Dancin', Shaggin' on the Boulevard (June 23, 1997) reached No. 3; Of Course I'm Alright (October 11, 1997) peaked at No. 22; and She's Got That Look in Her Eyes (February 9, 1998) peaked at No. 21. The album also includes covers of The Temptations' My Girl and Bruce Channel's Hey! Baby.
Dancin' on the Boulevard peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and No. 55 on the Billboard 200. The title track was co-written by lead singer Randy Owen, bassist Teddy Gentry, and Greg Fowler. Notably, Alabama’s drummer Mark Herndon does not play on the album. AllMusic’s Thom Owens gave the album 2 out of 5 stars, calling it fairly predictable and noting it only comes alive with its singles.
