Danao is a small town in the province of Bohol, in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines. It covers about 162.76 square kilometers and has 17 barangays. The population was 20,299 people in 2024, and the town sits about 123 kilometers from Tagbilaran city.

History and name
Danao began as part of nearby towns and became an independent municipality in 1961. The name Danao is linked to local water features, such as a lake, lagoon, or freshet (a sudden rise or overflow of water).

The Isumod River flows near the town center and can overflow during heavy rains, joining the Wahig River and emptying into the sea. Elevation in Danao ranges from about 57 to 424 meters above sea level.
