D-Motor is a privately held Belgian aircraft engine maker based in Deerlijk, serving customers worldwide. Founded around 2009 by Peter Desmet (CEO) and with Kathy Vercruysse as CFO, the company develops compact, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, horizontally opposed engines for homebuilt and ultralight aircraft. It started to replace the Rotax 582 and Jabiru 2200 in the Belgian Masquito M80 helicopter project. In 2010, D-Motor unveiled the LF26, a four-cylinder 92 hp engine, and later the LF39, a six-cylinder 125 hp variant. Both engines are ultra-compact, with side-valve design and very oversquare cylinders. They have been used in gyroplanes like the Niki Lightning and in fixed-wing aircraft such as the BOT SC07 Speed Cruiser and Peak Aerospace Me 109R. The company raised funds from a Chinese distributor who became an investor. D-Motor has subsidiaries in Beijing, the USA, Canada, and Germany.
