Cy Alexander, full name Cyrus Walker Alexander III, was born on September 9, 1953, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is a former American college basketball coach who built a long career in the MEAC.

Alexander started as an assistant coach at Howard University from 1976 to 1987. He then became the head coach at South Carolina State University, a position he held from 1987 to 2003. In April 2003, he moved to Tennessee State University to continue his head coaching career, but he was fired in February 2009.

In 2012, Alexander was named head coach at North Carolina A&T, a role he held until he resigned in January 2016 midway through the season. He later joined Alcorn State as an assistant coach in 2022.

Over his head-coaching career, Alexander posted a record of 392 wins and 388 losses. His teams won five MEAC regular-season titles (1989, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2003) and six MEAC tournament championships (1989, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2013). He was named MEAC Coach of the Year in 2003. He also led teams to six NCAA Division I tournament appearances, recording one tournament win.
