Ctenium elegans is an annual grass native to African savannas. It grows on sandy soils from Senegal to Sudan, in the South Sahelian and North Sudanian zones. The stems are used for roof thatching and to make baskets, mats, and brooms. It is rarely used as grazing fodder.
