Syed Abul Maksud
Syed Abul Maksud (23 October 1946 – 23 February 2021) was a Bangladeshi journalist, columnist, research scholar, essayist and writer. Born in Elachipur, Manikganj, then part of British India, he became known for his critical research and clear, simple writing. He regularly contributed to the Daily Prothom Alo. His essays on literature, society, culture and politics were appreciated for his direct view and easy style. He did substantial research on famous writers such as Rabindranath Tagore, Buddhadeva Bose, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and Syed Waliullah. His travel book Journal of Germany was popular. In 1995, he received the Bangla Academy Literary Award for his contributions to Bengali literature. Maksud died at age 74 in Dhaka, on the way to hospital after falling ill on 23 February 2021.
