Cross Gene
Cross Gene is a South Korean boy band formed in 2012 by Amuse Korea. They were a multinational group with members from Korea, Japan, and China, known for the idea of “crossing the superior genes” from each country. They debuted on June 11, 2012 with the mini-album Timeless: Begins, which charted on Gaon.
The original lineup included three Korean members (Shin, Sangmin, Yongseok), two Chinese members (J.G. and Casper), and one Japanese member (Takuya). Seyoung joined in 2013 after J.G. left; Takuya briefly served as leader before Shin took over. Cross Gene released music in Korea and Japan, including the Japanese debut single Shooting Star in 2013, and played concerts in China and Hong Kong.
In 2016, Casper left the group, and a sub-unit called X HEARTS formed with Seyoung, Sangmin, and Yongseok. In 2019, Takuya left the group, and Sangmin and Yongseok did not renew their contracts. Beginning in 2020, several members began military service: Shin enlisted in October 2020, and Yongseok and Sangmin served from 2020–2022. Seyoung left Cross Gene in December 2020. Since then, the group has been on hold as members focus on other activities.
