Council of the Arab League
The Council of the Arab League, also called the Arab League Council, is the main body of the Arab League. It was created by article 3 of the Arab League Charter. On 11 October 2023, Arab foreign ministers met in Cairo in an emergency session led by Morocco to discuss stopping the escalation in the Palestinian territories and attacks on civilians in Gaza. The Charter says the Council is made up of representatives from member states, who can be heads of state, heads of government, or foreign ministers; each country has one vote no matter how many representatives it sends. The presidency of the Council rotates among member states, and the secretary-general is chosen by a two-thirds majority. The Council has seven special committees:
