Cookes House
Cookes House, also called Tom Paine's House, is a historic stone home in York, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1761 and is a two-story house with Germanic and Provincial Georgian influences. Around 1800 it was turned into a double house. It is the third oldest building in York, after the General Horatio Gates House and the Golden Plough Tavern. It is believed that Thomas Paine lived there while the Second Continental Congress met in York from September 30, 1777, to June 27, 1778. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
