The Great Kimberley Diamond Robbery
The Great Kimberley Diamond Robbery is a 1911 South African silent film directed by R. C. E. Nissen and produced by Rufe Naylor for Springbok Film Company. It was also shown as The Star of the South and is considered the first South African dramatic film. The story: A diamond is found near the Vaal River and sold to Dick Grangeway. Dick plans to take the diamond to Cape Town or London to sell it. Two criminals learn of the diamond and plot to rob him, kidnapping Dick’s wife Kate to learn where the diamond is. The film runs about 15 minutes and is black-and-white with English intertitles.
