Convención
Convención is a municipality in Norte de Santander, Colombia. It covers 907 square kilometers and sits at 1,076 meters above sea level. The population is about 18,000 people (2018 census). The climate is temperate, and Convención is the department’s largest producer of panela (unrefined sugar).
History: The first European to reach the area was German explorer Ambrosio Alfinger in 1530, who died in battles with indigenous people. Later, Spanish explorers Pedro de Ursúa and Ortón Velázquez founded settlements in the region.
