Committee on Human Rights of Scientists
Founded in 1978, the Committee on Human Rights of Scientists of the New York Academy of Sciences works to protect the basic human rights of scientists worldwide. It steps in when scientists, engineers, health professionals, or educators are detained, imprisoned, exiled, killed, disappeared, or prevented from pursuing science, sharing their findings, or traveling, in accordance with the International Council for Science (ICSU) policies. The related award recognizes scientists who help safeguard or advance these rights; it was renamed in 1986.
