Come Look at Me
Come Look at Me (Prikhodi na menya posmotret) is a 2000 Russian romantic comedy directed by Oleg Yankovsky and Mikhail Agranovich. It was Yankovsky’s only film as a director, and he won Best Actor at Kinotavr for his work.
The story follows Tatiana, a middle-aged woman who lives with her disabled mother, Sofia. Sofia fears Tatiana will end up alone after she dies, so she asks to see her daughter happy. One New Year’s visit, a stranger named Igor arrives with roses and champagne. To fulfill her mother’s wish, Tatiana plays along and pretends Igor is her fiancé. Igor agrees to go along with the ruse, even calling his actual lover and causing a comic misunderstanding. To keep the deception going, Tatiana also enlists a vegetable seller to pretend to be her long-lost daughter.
On New Year’s Eve, Sofia wants Tatiana to spend the holiday with Igor. A Santa Claus-wearing man on crutches (the pretend daughter’s accomplice) appears, and when they return home they find Sofia up and about. In the festive mood, Igor, still in his Santa outfit, shows up on the landing and proposes to Tatiana.
