Limia fuscomaculata
Blotched limia (Limia fuscomaculata) is a critically endangered fish found only in Lake Miragoane in southwestern Haiti. It belongs to the livebearing family Poeciliidae and was described in 1980 by Luis R. Rivas, who named seven other Limia species. It is placed in the Odontolimia subgenus, which is known for large conical teeth. The blotched limia grows up to about 3.9 cm long and has dark spots and blotches along its sides. It is native only to Lake Miragoane, which also hosts several related Limia species. The species is threatened by deforestation, water pollution, invasive fish such as tilapias Oreochromis aureus and Coptodon rendalli, the common carp Cyprinus carpio, and floods from climate change.
